Living history

From the Mordstock story, to the Rose, to the NaturKultur Hotel Stumpf.

Long before today's NaturKultur Hotel Stumpf came into being and developed over the years into a conference and wellness hotel known beyond the region, the young Leibfried family lived in a house in the center of Neunkirchen. Together, the family managed a farm until something terrible happened on June 19, 1822 (video link). The 23 years young Eva Elisabetha was murdered on the way home with 11 knife stabs in the heart chamber. It is said to have been an act of jealousy by the forester.

Many years later, on 17.02.1856, Karl Fischer opened the restaurant "zur Rose" in that very house in Neunkirchen. Karl Fischer died just two years later. His widow, Katharina Philipina, initially ran the business alone until she married her second husband, Wilhelm Stumpf, in 1863.

The couple had son Jakob, who later ran the business with his wife Friederike and added a dance hall. Later, however, the building continued to be run by various tenants until 1975, when Wilhelm and Anna Stumpf continued the gastronomic history.

In 1975, they built the Park- und Sporthotel Stumpf on the outskirts of Neunkirchen with 16 rooms, bathing facilities, indoor swimming pool and sauna... That was the starting signal for today's NaturKultur Hotel Stumpf.

Milestones in the further history of the hotel:

1985

1990

Addition of seminar area and new construction of 17 additional hotel rooms

1996

Business takeover by Albert Stumpf

For 34 years now we have been coming here to hike and relax, initially with family as a retreat from the hectic Rhine-Main area and today as a fixed point in our annual planning. Conclusion:We love this "hideaway" in the small Odenwald with its fields, forests and the Neckar.
